South Gate is a well-kept neighborhood, thanks largely to its active community association. Membership in this neighborhood group is optional for community residents. However, joining the association is quite attractive with its very reasonable social membership fee of $65 per year. An additional $125 annual membership fee is charged for access to the community’s swimming pool.

The association manages and holds office at the South Gate Community House, a historic mid-century building designed by noted Sarasota School of Architecture disciple Victor Lundy. Located at a lushly wooded site on Philippi Creek, this circa 1956 neighborhood center was rendered as a graceful glass pavilion and is set for a restoration project spearheaded by the association.

Besides being rented out for social and community gatherings, the center also hosts weekly yoga classes. From the creek side of the Community House, association members can launch canoes and kayaks onto Philippi Creek.

Perks of a central location

In addition to these neighborhood perks, South Gate homes for sale enjoy close proximity to top-tier public and private schools. Many of the commercial hubs along the South Tamiami Trail are also nearby. Notable amongst these is the upscale Siesta Key Westfield (erstwhile known as Westfield Southgate Mall), which has drawn new tenants including high-end retailers and restaurants following its renovation in 2014. 

The award-winning beach of Siesta Key is likewise easily accessible via a short trip westward on Siesta Drive. Similarly, the central location of South Gate homes for sale allows quick northward transit to downtown Sarasota and its eclectic cultural and urban lifestyle offerings.
